Magazine Conventions

On a magazine front cover there are many different conventions that are used for different purposes.


Puff
Puffs are what draws people’s eyes to the magazine; it sort of draws their eyes to the prize. A puff tells them something they could win. A puff is usually bold and easy to spot.




Slogan

A slogan is a sentence that is catchy and sometimes humorous


The Golden Triangle

The golden triangle is a way of setting out an image where the text is also in a triangle layout. This layout is works well because; the text and images are all set out for the audience to be able to see everything clearly.


Pug
The pug is normally on the top left or right hand side of the magazine, which contains the key information for the readers, much as the price, the issue number etc...


Skyline
The skyline is above the mast head



Cover line

A cover line is on the front cover which does not detract away from the main image or any other conventions.


Tagline
A tagline sentences that use intensifiers or that use positive words example, brilliant, excellent, fantastic, great etc...





Banner
The banner is the strip at the bottom of the magazine front cover which shows the content of the magazine.


Website

The website is a way of showing the audience more information, but the website is usually not that noticeable as they are trying to sell the magazine not the website.
