Prom Night
I looked at the film Prom Night and found that it had a gripping story line. It was similar to our story in a way because the girl is the main character. I like this poster because of the face expression. I like how the tiara is covering a bit of her face, to show the prom side of the story and the colour is of a blue tint to give a dystopia horror effect. I also like how the stalker is not revealed in the poster to keep it a mystery.
Scream 2
This is another film that we looked at, and thought it was catchy, but the poster was quite disappointing because it did not really have that sense scariness or suspense. The poster doesn't really catch people’s attention. This poster compared to the Prom Night poster, I feel that the Prom Night poster is much stronger and sends out a stronger message to their audience, but I like how this poster uses the use of shadows in the two main faces in the background it gives a sort of edge to it.
The Strangers
I thought that this poster is very interesting because the victims (the protagonist) had their backs to the camera, as though they didn’t want their faces to be revealed but show the enemies, I thought that this technique was very unusual, as normal posters wouldn’t show the stalkers, and normally show the expressions of the victims.
The Strangers
This is the same film as above "The Strangers", but I found this poster much more powerful. The whole effect on it, from the scared looking character, to the colours and editing, I find works much better. I like the orangey effect and the scratches to say that she might have scratched it from trying to get away. I find that this whole poster works much better. The previous poster did not show the victims faces, but this one does. I think that the face expression in a particular genre is important in a film poster.
Hard CandyHard Candy is the film that we found had the most similar storyline to ours. So we looked at the poster. I like how it’s just the girl in the picture with her hoody up, not revealing what she looks like, but I thought that maybe the stalker could be in the shot as well not revealing his identity, and then it would show more of the story, but still keep it a suspense. The props that are used, such as her costume is very precise, as I like that it shows she is a school girl as, she wearing a bag. She is also wearing red which indicates love and romance, and also anger as she’s trying to lure him in and then trap him. I like how they have used the trap around her, with her inside it as though she’s waiting for him.
Hard CandyThis is another Hard Candy poster that I found and I thought that was a bit more effective but the first hard candy poster I felt was the better one. I like how this poster has included the stalker in the poster, but not revealing all of him. I thought that was a clever way with still keeping his identity from the audience. I like the way they have used him looking at the camera, to show that he’s watching your every move and to make it that little bit scarier. It also shows that he is connecting with the audience. I also like how they have used the girl’s picture on the blinds. It kind of makes it looks like he’s looking through her.
really good selection of posters - relevant and will be useful when constructing your own poster.
