Evaluation Questions and Answers

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

As I am the editor of the group I have looked at our similar trailer Hard Candy and the different ways they have cut their clips. I have also looked at how fast the cuts were at the beginning of the trailer until the end. I also looked at how the continuity was set out in the Hard Candy trailer. I learnt that they used a lot of fades, to the built up to the quick fast cuts near the end. I have made sure that the voice over’s connect to the image, and I have used the fade effects.

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

By creating a magazine, and a poster for the trailer, it has created synergy. The magazine and the posters promote to different people/ different audiences. The poster would be seen on bus stops, the underground, billboards etc... And the magazine would be shown in shops such as WHSmiths or in a local shop. These two media products together created synergy.

As a group we wanted a theme to run through our posters. We thought that using an image of a keyboard would be very effect, as our storyline is about teaching our target audience, mainly girls to be careful who they talk to online. We all had the same dark tones, as this signified mysteriousness and a sinister feel. From having a theme running through all of our posters, this created a combination of synergy, as our audience or any member of public would recognize our 4 posters where from the same group if they were scattered around different places. This way we are targeting our audience, with different posters.

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Hearing from our target audience is a very important stage within development of the structure of the trailer, and the poster and front cover of magazine, as we get an insight of what they would like or not like to see in these three combinations of synergy.

In our trailer/poster questionnaire we included a question about editing and whether our audience would prefer to see quick cuts in a trailer or loads of dialogue. The majority said that they would like to see quick cuts. This vital piece of information helped me when thinking about editing the trailer as I used this piece of information to input this into our trailer, as I am the editor. We as a group also gathered information from our target audience, by showing them the trailer. After hearing there different opinions, we used this information to go back and improve on the trailer, to suit our audience.

How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

As a group we have used different kind of technologies to help get the planning and research stage done, communicating, and mainly getting the project done.

As part of editing I used editing software called Adobe Premier Elements 9. This software is advanced and great for editing a piece that has quick or complicated cuts, such as a trailer. Without Adobe Premier Elements 9, as an editor I would not have been able to create such of a trailer.

We also used Photoshop to create our poster and magazine. Photoshop was hard to use to begin as i was not too sure how to use the different tools. As I spent more time using Photoshop learnt about the different tools. From making the poster and magazine in Photoshop, I have learnt a lot about the software.
